What to Read...?

Well this week I didn't do much reading for 2 reasons. 1) I haven't had much time to read and 2) I can't find any books to read! If you have any books you feel I need to read please don't hesitate to leave a comment with the title!

And now to Romeo and Juliet! Well, the prologue is a little confusing but it seems like something that belongs in a play, so that's a good start. As for the actual play, I started reading it with Lily last week and I'm really looking forward to continuing into the story. And I am also thrilled that the copy Ms. Wierenga so kindly gave to us has a table of contents!

Oh, and before I forget, this Tuesday is V-neck Tuesday so everyone wear a V-neck shirt if you have one! Thanks :)

This Week's Reading

Well this week, my reading has been mostly information on the respiratory and musular systems for Anatomy (science olympiad). I never knew how complicated breathing was! And I have memorized almost all of the body's skelatal muscles, anterior and posterior (front and back).

Along with reading my various handouts, I've been listening to the Harry Potter books on tape that I got for my birthday. I LOVE them! The guy who reads them (Jim Dale) has the greatest voices for the characters. My favorite is uncle Vernon's. It's the perfect mix of nasal and accent! I listen to them all the time. Usually I don't follow along in the books, though, because Jim isn't quite as fast at reading as I am.

The End of The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail

Well overall it was quite a good play. I felt that the stage directions were very detailed and I liked them a lot more than the stage directions in Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds. I really, really loved the way Henry put things. Just the way he talked was astounding to me. My favorite thing he said in the whole play was, "We love without knowing it. A man, or a woman, can't love on schedule. I don't wake up in the morning and say: 'I shall start loving at nine-twenty, and continue until ten-fifteen.' Yes, it is accidental. And it's everywhere, it's the wind, the tide, the waves, the sunshine."

I didn't count how many times huckleberries were mentioned, but I did love all the little references to him. The best part I think was when Henry took Edward huckleberry-hunting. Especially when Edward tripped with his basket full and Henry said, "You have planted whole patches of huckleberries, for an entire generation of Edward Emersons!" But all in all I enjoyed the play thoroughly.

The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail- Most of Act 1

Well I'm not quite through the first act yet but so far I am really enjoying it. Henry is quite a thinker and I love the way he talks and eleaborates on his peculiar thoughts. I think my favorite part so far was when he taught his cell mate Bailey how to spell his name. I would have never thought of letters the way that he described them. "'B-A-Beanpole-Turn the Corner-Comb-Tree" as Bailey put it.

I don't really know what I think of Waldo yet. He's a bit strange and not in the good way that Henry is. I feel as though Henry shouldn't be striving to be like Waldo as he told John on page 8. "'What do you want to be? Do you have any idea?' 'Yes, I know exactly. I want to be as much as possible like Ralph Waldo Emerson.'"
